China's key retail sales enterprises enjoyed brisk sales during the May Day holiday which lasted from April 30 to May 2, said the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) in a statement on Wednesday.
During the holiday, the total sales volume surged 19.7 percent year on year, while the daily sales volume jumped 51.2 percent on average compared to the April 29 figures, according to the statement on the MOC website.
Enterprises' sales promotions had greatly contributed to the selling boom. Commodities such as jewelry, home appliances, digital products and clothing sold quickly in destination markets, including Beijing, Qingdao and Yinchuan, it said.
Beijing restaurant operators saw total revenue jump 27.9 percent compared to the same period last year. This rise was led by a red-hot wedding feast business. Family-reunion feasts and tourism accommodation also contributed to revenue growth, said the statement.
