The world's largest tech company Hewlett-Packard will recall 78,740 laptop batteries used in HP- and Compaq-series laptops sold in China due to a potential fire risk, China's product quality watchdog announced in a satement on its Website Thursday.
The faulty batteries, produced by LG Electronics between July 2007 and May 2008, may cause fires due to a flaw that leads the batteries to overheat and melt, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said in the statement.
The consumers can get the batteries replaced free of charge, the statement said.
HP recalled 15,000 batteries in May 2009 and 19,573 batteries in May 2010 for the same reason, according to the statement.
