Airbus previously planned to announce a multi-billion-euro aircraft order last week. |
China signed an agreement on Wednesday with European airplane maker Airbus to purchase 88 A320 aircrafts, China Business News reported Thursday.
The US$7.5 billion order was signed during Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Germany and came days after foreign media reported China had delayed the announcement of an US$3.8 billion Airbus order in protest of the European Union's plan to extend a carbon dioxide emissions trading scheme to the airline industry.
According to the agreement, the passenger jets will go to ICBC Financial Leasing Co. and China Aviation Supplies Holding Company (CAS), which purchased 42 and 46 aircraft respectively.
As of May 2011, 13 Chinese airline companies were operating a total of 575 A320-family aircraft, statistics provided by Airbus show.
China signed another deal with Airbus last year during President Hu Jintao's visit to France, ordering 102 Airbus planes, including 50 A320-family jets, 6 A330s and 10 A350XWBs.
