China's largest search engine Baidu Inc has teamed up with digital television network operator WASU Digital Media Group to launch an Internet search service on television sets.
This is the latest step in Baidu's drive to extend its business beyond desktop computers to terminals like smartphones and tablet PCs.
As part of the deal, Baidu's search service and products, including Baidu Image, Baidu Map and Baidu Music Box, will be pre-installed in set-top boxes operated by WASU's network in more than 100 cities. Users will be able to use their TV set to search the web.
"Internet services have a huge potential for development in the TV sector with our collaboration in technology and product," said Vice President Li Xuedong of WASU.
