Charitable donations from 92 centrally administered state-owned enterprises (SOEs) totaled 1.69 billion yuan (268.4 million U.S. dollars) in the first three quarters of 2011, official data showed on Monday.
About 976.5 million yuan, or 57.8 percent of the donations, was made to public welfare causes, while about 560.2 million yuan, or 33.1 percent of the donations, was used for disaster-relief and poverty reduction, according to figures released by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), China's SOE regulatory body.
Shenhua Group Corp. Ltd., the largest coal producer in China, topped the list with 598.4 million yuan donated. China National Petroleum Corp. and China Petrochemical Corp. followed with 240.4 million yuan and 98.1 million yuan of donations respectively.
There were 25 central SOEs whose donations exceeded 10 million yuan during the time, according to the SASAC.
Currently, China has 117 central SOEs with total assets of 24 trillion yuan. Charitable donations from 110 central SOEs totaled 4.199 billion yuan in 2010.
