Foxconn, a primary supplier of electronic components for Apple, started constructing its mainland headquarters in Shanghai on Thursday.

The move came as the the company is poised to grow its domestic market.
The headquarters, located in Shanghai's bustling Lujiazui financial district, will undertake the company's research and development efforts and facilitate the company's shift to a new business model, said Terry Gou, head of Foxconn, adding that the company also plans to set up an e-business center in Shanghai's Minhang district.
Foxconn is the world's largest maker of computer components and is responsible for assembling products for Apple, Sony and Nokia.
