The current security and quality of domestic dairy products and infant formula milk powder are in the best period of their history, according to infant milk powder quality reports released by China Dairy Industry Association, reported Jinghua Times on Sunday.

Over 99 percent of randomly checked samples qualified testings, said the report.

Song Kungang, head of China Dairy Industry Association, said that the Chinese dairy industry has seen a fundamental change since the melamine incident three years ago. It has been cleaned up, the implementation of the licensing system has been rectified and product monitoring checks have also improved.

According to the reports, many efforts brought this change. Firstly, the newly revised standard infant milk powder is China's fourth-generation standard, it is technically advanced, and also one of the most stringent standards in the world. Secondly, raw materials have been protected in quality and safety. In addition, advanced processing technology and equipment, perfect quality assurance system and improved national regulation have also provided support to the industrial change.

However, the industry still faces some problems at present, noted Wang Liming, secretary of the Consumer Goods Industry Division of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Current issues include the lack of input in raw material base construction, the delayed development of milk sources, unstable product prices and unmarked packaging of reconstituted milk,Wang said.

Ma Chunliang, deputy director of the Department of Supervision on Food Production of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), also stated that the AQSIQ will strengthen the quality inspection of raw materials, the supervision of the entire production process, establish and improve the dairy traceability system, focus on media monitoring as tips for law enforcement, and investigate quality violations that occur in the production process.
