FDI in China rebounds slightly in May

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in China hit 9.23 billion U.S. dollars in May, up 0.05 percent year on year, the Ministry of Commerce announced Friday.

The slight rebound last month ended continuous FDI declines for six straight months previously. The FDI in May was up from 8.4 billion U.S. dollars registered in April.

A total of 2,245 new companies were founded with foreign capital in May, down 6.11 percent year on year, the MOC data showed.

The May data brought the total FDI in China in the first five months this year to 47.11 billion U.S. dollars, down 1.91 percent year on year.

During the same period, a total of 9,261 new companies were set up, down 12.16 percent compared to the same period last year.
