On February 1, Chong Quan, Deputy China International Trade Representative, held talks with Jean-Luc Demarty, European Commission's Director General for Trade, at EU headquarters in Brussels, on China-EU trade and economic relations.
Mr. Chong said that the aim of China’s visit is to fully communicate with the EU, exchange views in earnest, and solve bilateral trade disputes through dialogues and consultations.
Mr. Chong said that China and the EU have a friendly political relationship, and are important trade partners. The EU is China’s largest trade partner and largest import source, and China is EU’s second largest trade partner and largest import source. The two sides have extensive cooperation and common interests in the fields of PV products, automobiles, wireless communication, environmental protection, and agriculture, and have a promising cooperation prospect. Especially under such sluggish economic situation, the two sides should join efforts, value and safeguard China-EU trade and economic relations, and realize win-win results through cooperation.
The EU side expressed welcome and gratitude to the visit and sincerity of China’s delegation, and the willingness to carry out serious discussions with China and reach agreement through consultations.
After the talks, the two sides also made communication on technical issues.
