The economy of Tibet is estimated to have grown 12.5 percent in 2013 to reach 80.2 billion yuan (13.2 billion U.S. dollars), local authorities said Tuesday.
The growth rate was 0.5 percentage points higher than last year. Gross domestic product (GDP) in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region is up 82 percent in just four years.
Tibet's GDP has maintained double-digit growth for the past two decades.
In 2013, fixed-asset investment rose 28 percent to 91 billion yuan, while retail sales are estimated to have jumped 16 percent to 28.9 billion yuan, Chen Quanguo, the Communist Party chief of Tibet told the region's economic conference.
The region is estimated to have played host to 13 million tourists in 2013, up 22.8 percent.
The per-capita cash income of farmers and herdsmen is estimated at 6,520 yuan, an increase of 14 percent. Average urban income looks to have risen 11 percent to 20,192 yuan.
