Britain is seeing business opportunity in Chinese green construction sector, which promises volume as high as 200 million pounds (337 million U.S. dollars), Business Secretary Vince Cable announced on Monday.

The UK Trade & Investment said the former British government establishment, but now a private organization, Building Research Establishment (BRE), has signed an agreement with government of China's southeastern burgeoning Shenzhen City, to set up a center, delivering training and promoting services of green construction standards across China.

The firm said it aims to certify over 1,000 buildings across China to its standards which will create 10 million pounds income and could create up to 200 million pounds of work for British supply chain companies.

Although the green building market in China is at an early stage, Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of green buildings in recent years.

"We are excited by the collaboration with the Shenzhen Government and supporting them to achieve their goal to be the greenest city in China," said Jaya Skandamoorthy, director of BRE China.

"We hope our international standards, research and training program will provide a platform for leading companies, British and Chinese, to collaborate on green products, technologies and buildings," he added.
