Abstract
There were two Silk Roads in the course of history. The first one was to facilitate commerce in the 1st century BC and the other established intellectual linkages between East and West in the 16th-17th centuries. Some of the past lessons are worth studying even now. The New Silk Road vision raised by new Chinese leaders in 2013 addresses the present day's challenges. The emphasis is put upon Asia at the first stage. Some components of the implementation have been completed. At the same time there are difficulties and stumbling blocks to overcome. Time, patience, realistic approach, proactivity, cool-headedness, and persistent efforts are needed in the future so as to achieve what are expected.
