Abstract

The initiative of the Silk Road Economic Belt was proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his four-nation tour in Central Asia. The Silk Road Economic Belt, based on the traditional Silk Road, is a new channel for invigorating economic and trade exchanges and seeking common prosperity for China and Central Asian nations. The new media in Xinjiang plays a role beyond the traditional media. First, the new media enjoys communicational advantages in the process of building the Silk Road Economic Belt. Second, the enhanced cooperation in the new media could serve economic and cultural development in the region. Third, setting up a multi-language new media platform will better promote the communication and exchanges among different peoples. Fourth, the regional communication pattern that Xinjiang's new media builds regarding the Silk Road Economic Belt will be confronted with both opportunities and challenges.
