In April, around 3,000 to 4,700 Nokia staff in Beijing were told they would be laid off after the takeover by Microsoft Corp. In the same month, Nokia received regulatory approval from Chinese authorities to sell its mobile phone business to Microsoft Corp.

Nokia agrees in September 2013 to sell the business to Microsoft in a $6.8 billion deal. Microsoft said it will lay off 18,000 employees, many of them are factory workers in China.
