The Global Mobile Internet Conference (GMIC) 2015 kicked off in Beijing on Tuesday morning, with the theme of "mobile everything." Over 25,000 mobile industry executives, entrepreneurs, developers and investors from over 60 countries will take part in the conference.
Lin Bin, co-founder and president of Xiaomi corporate, apologized to Xiaomi fans by taking an opportunity during the panel discussion entitled "The Power of Going Mobile -- From One To All" after the opening ceremony and explained why the special edition of the Xiaomi Note was not released as scheduled in January.
"It is because we are pursuing perfection and we want to make a top-level Android phone. However we have encountered lots of technical challenges in the process of research and development, therefore it took us longer to finish the phone than we expected. We will officially release it on May 6 and after a short time it will be available to buy on the market," Lin said.
Lin denied that his company sold mobile phones through a hunger marketing strategy which has been widely criticized for five years since its foundation in 2010. "We plan to sell 80 to 100 million Xiaomi mobile phones this year and we really hope that our products can be made available to consumers as quickly as possible," he added.
Talking about the launch of the company's newest handset, the Mi 4i, in India last week, Lin said that the company is proud of its first successful release outside China, which was attended by enthusiastic and crazy Indian fans and was even reported by Wall Street Journal.
"We are very happy that Indian consumers are satisfied with our products which were made to completely cater to their needs and interests. Ratan Tata, ex-chairman of India's Tata Group, has given us an investment which is tantamount to his approval of our business pattern," he said.
Responding to a question about how to balance time spent on work and with family, he answered jokingly that the only thing you should do is to make your family members big fans of your products. He said, "I have something in common with Xiaomi's founder and CEO Lei Jun in that no matter how busy we are with work, we stay with family members on Sundays."
Huai Jinpeng, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, also attended the opening ceremony of GMIC and gave a keynote speech, saying that China will surpass the United States this year to become the biggest market for mobile phones, and China is ready for the development of the mobile internet industry, which will totally change the world, he pointed out. He said, "Mobile makes a difference," and wished this year's GMIC great success.
