Wang Jianlin is once again the richest man in Asia. |
Thanks to the continuous rise in the value of his listed assets, Chinese real estate tycoon Wang Jianlin is once again the richest man in Asia, surpassing Li Ka-shing, the most recent owner of the title, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index.
Wang is sitting on US$38.1 billion, making him the richest man in Asia and the 11th richest in the world. Alibaba founder Jack Ma is in 17th place with a net worth of US$35.1 billion. Li Ka-shing is in 19th place on the list with a fortune of US$34.7 billion. Wang's ranking has surpassed Jack Ma and Li Ka-shing since late April.
The bulk of Wang's wealth has come from the increasing value of his listed assets: the Wanda Cinema Line and Wanda Commercial Properties, which expanded 74 percent and 33 percent respectively in April.
Revaluation by investors is believed to be the reason behind Wanda's recent strong performance in the capital market. Wanda is undergoing a strategic transformation from "heavy assets" to "light assets," which will help ease the capital bottleneck that has long restricted its business expansion.
