Chinese shares climb to highest closing in 7 years

Chinese shares extended the bull run on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index surging 3.35 percent, or 156.2 points, to finish at 4,813.8 points, the highest level in over 7 years.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 1.9 percent, or 305.26 points, to close at 16,351.06 points.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, dropped 1.39 percent, or 48.71 points, to end at 3,467.92 points.
