Vice-Premier Wang Yang met with US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, the special representative of United States President Barack Obama, in Beijing on March 30.

Wang said the China-US relationship has achieved historic progress over the past year and the two countries should make combined efforts to ensure the success of President Xi Jinping’s upcoming visit to the US.

Xi was invited by Obama to pay a state visit to the US in September.

China hopes the two sides can put the significant agreements reached by the two leaders in place and successfully hold the seventh round of the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue, Wang said.

He also called for joint efforts in speeding up the negotiation of the bilateral investment treaty, deepening cooperation on climate change and energy and facilitating meaningful achievements in investment cooperation between provinces and states and cities as well.

The two sides could expand mutual benefits and mange differences to boost the healthy and stable development of bilateral economic ties, the vice-premier said.

For his part, Lew said Washington is willing to keep communications open with Beijing, to jointly hold bilateral strategic and economic dialogue and get all the necessary preparations ready for Xi’s visit.

The two sides also had candid discussions on other issues, including the China-US economic relationship.
