China's State Council officially approved the establishment of the Fuzhou New Area on August 30.

The area covers a planned space of 800 sq. km, including the whole of Mawei district, Cangshan district, Changle which is a county-level city, and parts of Fuqing, another county-level city.
The establishment of the area aims to deepen cooperation and exchange between Taiwan and Fujian provinces, and to promote eco-civilization and eco-social development in Fujian.
