@wcy218: We always say education is fundamental to our country’s enduring prosperity. Is this only an empty slogan? The government always says education is important, yet seldom places a high priority on education. When officials pay inspection visits to local schools, they are always led to several top notch schools that are typical image projects. Could you officials think things through and try not be fooled by these illusions? (Xinhua Weibo)

@chaohuiqiquxiao: The 18th Party Congress is about to open and we people are full of hope. As a teacher, I hope the government could step up investment in education, especially in the central and western regions, promote balanced development among regions and share quality teaching resources. I wish everything goes well with the 18th Party Congress! (Tencent Weibo)

@susan9979: Time flies and the 18th Party Congress will open soon. Besides the leadership transition, will the meeting also address education reform? What will the government do about so many child abuse cases in kindergartens? How do we help these traumatized children? Will schools test candidates for violent tendencies in future hiring? In fact, there are also hidden rules in teacher hiring. Let the discipline authorities do an investigation and see what they’ll find. (Sina Weibo)

@zhuxu: Sina recently reported a story about a rural teacher named Li Xiuxiong. Li has been teaching in a village school in Hainan province for 18 years and still is not on the government’s payroll. Journalists brought Li’s issue to local education authorities, yet didn’t receive a satisfying response. Li still has no idea when he would be a formal teacher and get paid by the government. We have to ask: What has caused Li to be a temporary rural teacher for so long? (Sina Weibo)

@linhaiyuanding: What rural areas lack most are teachers, because many good teachers have left for the cities. In order to keep these good teachers, the government needs to increase subsidies for rural teachers and let them enjoy the same quality of life as teachers in urban areas. (Xinhua Weibo)

@yjlyjy: To reform China’s education, the government should abandon examination-oriented education. Education should not be about examinations, extra lessons and workbooks. Please strengthen the education of wisdom, and pay more attention to teaching music, art and sports! (Xinhua Weibo)

@zhang116x: Rural schools have seen improved teaching quality and infrastructure since the beginning of the 21st century. However, due to reasons concerning local governments, rural teachers’ salaries are still very low even after several hikes. Some teachers in north Henan Province’s rural areas only get an average salary of a little over 1,000 yuan, which is less than that of an ordinary urban worker. Also, teachers’ performance-based salaries lack transparency and often become a breeding ground for corruption. I hope the government can step up supervision in this area. (Xinhua Weibo)

@yjlyjy: Scientists also need food, clothes, a place to live and money! Everybody is out making big money now and forgetting about doing scientific research. Could the government please pay more attention to scientific research and significantly increase salaries and welfare of real scientists in the country! (Xinhua Weibo)

@zhujianjun2081: The 18th Party Congress will open soon and I have something to say. If we want to beat the U.S. in development, we need to make more efforts in basic education. Check out South Korea and Japan, we are losing right from the starting line! With all the money our government has in hand, can’t they invest more in basic education? Four percent is just too little. Eight percent is fairly easy for our government! (Tencent Weibo)
