The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee reviewed two documents, which are about safeguarding the centralized, unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee and fully implementing frugality rules, at a meeting Friday.

The meeting was presided over by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.

Members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee agreed on the regulation on safeguarding and enhancing centralized, unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee, according to a statement issued after the meeting.

Members of the Political Bureau should firmly safeguard Xi's position at the core of the CPC Central Committee and the whole Party, the statement said.

They should strictly abide by the CPC Constitution and political rules, fully implement the guidelines adopted at the 19th CPC National Congress, and follow the centralized, unified leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Xi at the core.

The members agreed to report major issues to the central committee, implement the decisions of the committee and hand in follow-up reports as well as recommend cadres in accordance with Party's personnel policies, the statement said.

They pledged to be loyal and honest to the Party and take a strong stance against words and deeds that violate the CPC Constitution and rules and compromise the centralized leadership or unity of the CPC Central Committee.

They will discipline Party members within their jurisdiction, submit written reports on their work to the CPC Central Committee and Xi annually, and follow the Party's publicity rules, the statement said.

Departments which should report their work to the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and its standing committee annually include the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection as well as the Leading Party Members Groups of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the State Council, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the statement said.

On implementing the eight-point frugality code, it said that more should be done to consolidate and expand the achievements of the frugality campaign to maintain the Party's long-term governance, fulfill its mission and keep the flesh and blood ties between the Party and the people.

According to the statement, revised rules for the implementation of the code include further regulations on improving investigation work and news reporting, reducing meetings and documents, standardizing visits as well as practicing frugality.

Attendees at the meeting agreed that study and implementation of the spirit of the congress would be the primary task for the party and the country for years to come, and that it is important to guide all the cadres and the general public to learn from the report to the congress as well as the Party's Constitution.

The statement said that training will be carried out for CPC members and learning the spirit of the congress will be set as compulsory courses in Party schools, cadre colleges and administration institutes.

Education activities will be launched at enterprises, government departments, villages, universities, communities, military camps and on the Internet.

In order to better publicize and implement the spirit of the congress, the Party should firmly establish the consciousness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, uphold the leadership core and keep in alignment, said the statement.
