Frank Hsieh, nominee of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the 2008 election in Taiwan, was sworn in as chairman of the DPP, according to Taiwan media reports on Wednesday.

On January 14, Hsieh took the post of acting chairman of the DPP, Taiwan's ruling party, which suffered a crushing defeat in Saturday's "legislative" elections.

Chen Shui-bian resigned from his post as DPP chairman on January 12 after the party only won 27 of the total 113 seats. The Kuomintang (KMT), the main opposition party, won 81 seats.
