Taiwan's Internet population exceeded 15 million as of the end of January, according to a recent survey reported by Taipei media on Wednesday.

The survey, by the Taiwan Network Information Center, said that of those aged above 12 on the island, 68.51 percent had used the Internet at least once, up 0.74 percentage point from last year.

Broadband users accounted for 63.37 percent of the online population, the survey said, almost unchanged from last year.

The survey found that 70.2 percent of Taiwan's males and 66.8 percent of females were Internet users.

By age, 90 percent of those aged between 12 and 35 were netizens. The figure was as high as 96.95 percent for those aged 16 to 20, but among people aged above 56, only 17.89 percent used the Internet.

The survey also found that home was the most common place where people surfed the Internet in Taiwan.
