New petition reception office opened to handle complaint

China's Supreme People's Court (SPC) opened a bigger and better petition reception office Wednesday in an effort to better listen to public complaint.

Located at the south fourth ring road in Beijing with an area covering more than 15,000 square meters, the new place have four separate buildings to receive petitioners.

Inside the hall of the building to receive people who are unsatisfied with court's verdicts, staff were helping petitioners register and categorize their complaints, then sending them to corresponding rooms upstairs for individual consultant with judges.

"We are able to receive and provide consulting service to 74 visitors simultaneously," said Jiang Qibo, deputy chief judge of the new office. "The office has much more efficiency and safety than before."

"The new reception room could offer a cleaner, bigger, and more orderly environment for the petitioners to appeal, " said Wang Shengjun, president of the SPC, at a ceremony held to open the new office.

The SPC also ordered the staff in the office to treat the petitioners in a more friendly and polite manner.

Around 80 percent of China's courts across the country have set up petition reception offices. The SPC said it would launch a two-year campaign to standardize the petition-handling practice to offer more professional service.

Facing an increasing pressure to ensure fair and efficient trials and fight against corruption, Chinese courts have taken many measures to make trial's procedure more transparent and open.
