Beijing highlights comic and animation copyright protection

Officials from the Copyright Protection Center of China (CPCC) met comic and animations experts for "Comic and animation copyright service week" at the weekend. The event was designed to develop China's copyright system, help safeguard right holders' legitimate rights and facilitate the creation and dissemination of animation works. It was sponsored by the General Administration of Press and Publication.

The event was aimed at exploring a new model to protect original domestic comic and animation works copyright and provided a platform for domestic comic and animation enterprises and right holders to communicate.

Officials from the General Administration of Press and Publication and Copyright Protection Center of China attended the launch ceremony on Friday afternoon and were joined by comic and animation specialists.

According to Fan Weiping, director of the Industry Department of General Administration of Press and Publication, his administration initiated a series of activities at the beginning of the year to support enterprises and individuals to publish more high quality original animation works. This scheme has already achieved positive results.

Over the weekend following the launch ceremony, a series of activities were carried out, including a comic and animation works exhibition, a lecture about comic and animation copyright protection and a forum for domestic comic and animation enterprises to discuss experiences of copyright protection.

Comic and animation works copyright protection requires universal public support, it is hoped the event will raise awareness about its importance.
