Senior Chinese leader Li Changchun on Friday called for intensified efforts to learn Marxism and guide the country's future practices with the developing theories of Marxism.

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks during a symposium on the publication of two books of the works of Marx and Engels, and of Lenin.

The publication of the books was of importance to the socialist cause with Chinese characteristics and to the party building of the CPC, Li said.

He stressed that practical problems, new practices and development, and the national conditions and the characteristics of the times, should be the focus amid the learning of Marxism.

The two books should be used to train party and government cadres, and the works should be compiled into textbooks, he said.
