A municipal official was sentenced to death with a 2-year reprieve Thursday for taking bribes of over 15 million yuan (2.2 million U.S.dollars) in east China's Anhui Province.
Wang Haifeng, 56, was the former chief of Ma'anshan Municipal Land and Resources Bureau and once served as the head of Huashan district government in Ma'anshan.
He was arrested on Jan 24, 2009 and stood trial Thursday at Bengbu Municipal Intermediate People's Court.
Wang was deprived of political rights for life and all his personal properties confiscated, according to his sentence.
Wang said in court he would not appeal.
He took bribes of 14.3 million yuan and another 2.5 million yuan in U.S. dollar bills between 1997 and 2008 while serving as the district government chief and the bureau head. In return, Wang offered kickbacks regarding projects allocation, land sales, mine developing licenses, and so forth, the verdict reads.
