Police have detained a man who barged into a neighborhood after-class children care center armed with a knife and a home-made revolver to commit robbery Monday in Baotou City, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
There were only a couple of primary school students at the center when Zhang Zhanlin, an ex-convict, sneaked in at around 5 p.m. Monday, said Zhang Ming, an officer with the Kunlun District police department, Wednesday.
No student was hurt during the robbery.
"Zhang Zhanlin looked in two closets at the center but found nothing. He was later wrestled to the ground by a male worker of the center who happened to come back," according to the police officer.
A 10-centimeter-long knife fell out of the robber's pocket while he was wrestled to the ground.
Police later found him to be carrying a home-made revolver with five bullets.
Zhang Zhanlin, 48 and jobless, who had been drinking alcohol before the incident, claimed it was not his gun and that he had found it in a local park.
