10 dead, 43 injured in south China bus collision

Ten people were killed and 43 others were injured when two buses crashed head-on in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region early Monday morning, local police said.

The accident happened at 2 a.m. on a state highway in Hechi Town of Hechi City, the regional public security department said in a statement.

The injured passengers were sent to hospital for treatment. Two of them were in critical condition, it said.

One of the buses, registered in the neighboring Guangdong Province, was carrying 55 people. The other one had a number plate from Guangxi and had 28 people on board.

Police said neither bus was overloaded.

The cause of the accident was under investigation.
