A total of 2,499 moderate and minor earthquakes have jolted the Tibetan county of Yushu in northwest China's Qinghai Province, since it was devastated by a 7.1-magnitude quake on April 14, the Qinghai earthquake administration said on Friday.

Fan Lanbao, deputy director of the administration, said the quakes were all aftershocks. No casualties have been reported.

The latest one, measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale, happened 4:47 a.m. Friday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter was 33.3 degrees north latitude and 96.2 degrees east longitude, about 80.6 km southwest of the county seat Gyegu Town.

Fan said frequent tremors after a strong earthquake were normal, and would likely continue for "fairly long period."

The death toll from the April 14 earthquake stood at 2,698, with 270 people still missing, said Zhang Guangrong, vice governor of Qinghai on Monday.
