A man who allegedly shot dead two patrolling traffic policemen in south China's Guangdong province was arrested Thursday, two days after more than one thousand policemen were mobilized to catch him, Guangdong police authorities said.

Hu Yihua, the suspect, was arrested in a joint police operation in the southeast port city of Xiamen, Fujian province. A Lexus sedan that Hu had allegedly stolen, a loaded pistol and identity cards of the slain police officers were found in Hu's possession.

Police said Hu was a suspect in at least two murder cases.

On July 2, Hu fired four shots, killing a couple at a cinema parking lot in Yiwu City, Zhejiang province and had then fled to Guangdong.

While sleeping in the sedan at a highway service zone Monday night, Hu was encountered by the two patrolling traffic policemen in Jieyang City of Guangdong. He shot them dead and fled to Fujian, police investigators said.

The investigation is continuing, they added.
