Eight more persons have been prosecuted for causing last year's deadly blaze of newly built China Central Television (CCTV) headquarters.

They were accused of causing the accident by manufacturing and selling fake or substandard products, dereliction of duty, and impairing the testimony in an investigation.

Earlier, 21 persons stood trial in the case and received jail terms ranging from three to seven years, an official with the Beijing Municipal No. 2 People's Intermediate Court told Xinhua on Thursday.

The court accepted the case against the second group of eight defendants on August 4.

Luo Long, a former director from the safety quality supervision station of Beijing construction and engineering, was among those prosecuted. The other seven who have been charged were senior managers or safety supervision workers from the curtain wall supply and building materials companies.

An illegal fireworks display caused the blaze on February 9, 2009 in the 30-story building in Beijing's central business district, which left one firemen dead and eight injured. It also caused economic losses of more than 160 million yuan (US$23.58 million).
