Countless villages are now vanishing in China, the Beijing News reported.

Farmers' residential land was first taken to use for farming, and now the local government is taking more of that land for urban construction, which equals huge profits.

Without residential housing, farmers have to live in high-rise apartment buildings and live a new life they actually are not comfortable with.

In Zhucheng City, Shandong Province, some 1,249 villages have been merged into 208 countryside communities. All together 700,000 farmers have had to say goodbye to their own villages and move to the new living complexes.
