Two local government officials have been suspended after a coal mine flooded on Sunday in southwest China's Sichuan Province, leaving 29 workers trapped for a day until their rescue.
Yu Liangcai, Weiyuan County safety administrator, and Hu Yuehui, governor of Xiaohe Town, where the coal mine is situated, were suspended pending an investigation into the incident, the county government announced Thursday.
An investigation team, led by the local supervisory bureau, was investigating the cause of the incident, said a statement on the county government website.
In the meantime, production of all 56 coal mines in the county was halted pending inspections, said the statement.
None of the 29 mine workers was seriously injured, but they are still receiving medical treatment in the Weiyuan County Hospital.
They were trapped in the flooded coal mine for about 26 hours before being lifted to safety on Monday.
