Six sentenced to death for drug trafficking in C. China

A court in central China's Henan Province on Thursday sentenced six people to death, three to suspended death and 12 others to jail terms for drug trafficking.

The People's Intermediate Court of Luohe City in Henan sentenced Cui Changui, Li Zhanyong, Yang Linqu, Zhao Jiandong, Liu Wentao, Yu Sifu to death for selling, transporting and producing drugs.

Liang Liancheng, Zheng Gongshe, Li Changmao were each given the death penalty with a two-year reprieve for transporting and producing drugs, according to the verdict.

Another twelve people were given jail terms from two years to life.

The ring had been producing drugs and selling them in several provinces in south China since 2006. They produced, transported and sold 137 kg of methamphetamine pills and manufactured 382 kg of Ketamin, the verdict said.

Police found more than four tonnes of raw materials for drug-making at the site where they busted the ring in Luohe.

Twenty three lawyers defended the defendants during the two-day trial.
