Three of the children injured in Monday's primary school stampede in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of northwest China were discharged from hospital Tuesday, doctors said.
In addition, six seriously injured students are in stable conditions and 32 slightly injured students are expected to be released from the hospital soon, doctors said.
Students at the No. 5 Primary School in Aksu City were rushing downstairs for after-class exercises at 11:55 a.m. Monday when a girl stopped to tie her shoes and students began to fall over her, said Aytursun Metniyaz, the schoolmaster.
Classes also resumed Tuesday in the school.
The Ministry of Education issued a circular Tuesday asking local authorities to launch safety inspections of school facilities, improve supervision and administration when students are in the hallways, and teach children how to protect themselves in case of emergency situations.
The education authorities of Xinjiang also issued an order to hold safety overhauls and educational campaigns about safety measures in local schools.
