The group said the failure to eliminate porn WAP sites is due to basic telecommunications operators not effectively blocking such sites, adding that some of them even protect the sites and the payment services generating profits for porn WAP sites.
The research group called on basic telecommunications operators to accept inspections, and implement an accountability system. They also require a combination of management and technology to attack porn sites.
Fang Xingdong, the founder of Blog China and the Internet laboratory, told the Global Times that, as long as the operators continue to make profits, the porn WAP sites will not disappear, especially those concerning mobile internet.
"The traditional internet has few channels to accept payments for visiting pornographic contents online, but mobile internet makes it easy, as they instantly get funds once WAP users top up their phones," he said. "For the operators, the profits are greater than the risks."
Fang supports attacking the pornographic websites and he thinks it will be better if the authorities take some action. "Revealing the personal info of heads of the porn sites is the only way we had, as we don't have other better methods," he said.
Fang called for a long-term system for attacking the mobile internet regarding porn, adding that mobile operators will reduce their activities when the attack is serious, but they return to normal operations after the attack, as they are attracted by the profits.
