Chen Guangbiao, China's most famous philanthropist, and more than 90 entrepreneurs have announced to continue their annual donation trip this year, Yangtze Evening News reports.
During the traditional Spring Festival, 87 million yuan in cash and a batch of goods worth 40 million yuan, all donated by Chen and the other entrepreneurs, will be distributed to people in poverty-stricken regions such as Xinjiang, Gansu and the north part of Jiangsu province.
The batch of goods includes 13 thousand down jackets, 1,000 computers, 300 sets of solar water heaters and seven commercial vehicles.
Chen Guangbiao, CEO of Jiangsu Huangpu Recycling Resources Co Ltd in east China's Jiangsu province, donated six million yuan this year.
Chen said he was shocked to see that many people were unable to afford life necessities such as rice, cooking oil or meat during his previous visits to some less developed regions. Therefore, he committed himself to do something and to try to help those people have a happy Spring Festival. Hereafter, Chen launched his annual donation campaign around the country to distribute both cash and goods to low-income groups in need.
After years of donation, Chen gradually realized that the power of an individual was too small to help them. Since 2007, he began to call on more entrepreneurs to lend a hand.
Li Lin, chairman of a trade company in north China's Ordos city, is one of those followers. He said he was motivated by Chen Guangbiao's deed and so joined the philanthropic team a few years ago.
Due to his continuous efforts in the field of philanthropy, Chen Guangbiao has been awarded with the Charity Award, China's top prize to honor philanthropists.
Last year, in response to the dinner hosted by billionaires Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, Chen posted an open letter on the Internet announcing he would "donate all my wealth to charity when I leave this world."
