Beijing police will set up patrol booths in the city' s core areas, such as traffic hubs, downtown area and business districts, to ensure that enough police are on patrol 24 hours a day, said a spokesman with the city' s public security bureau on Monday.
The first booth was erected on Monday on the southwest corner of Lize bridge in Fengtai District. The booth covers an area of about six square meters and has an office desk and a computer in it.
Both the patrol cars and the booths are installed with a 3G cellular system that enables patrol booths or police stations to receive photos taken by police cars, the spokesman said.
All such patrol booths in Beijing will be set up by June, the spokesman said, adding that "the booths can ensure that police get to the scene faster and that there will always be police patrolling the streets 24 hours a day."
