An expert claims that the Golden Crab, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)'s new product, consists of cheap crab, and not its claimed "flower crab", reported the Qianjiang Evening News on March 9.

The expert, from Zhejiang Provincial Ocean and Fisheries Bureau, told a reporter the delicacy is made from the Asian paddle crab, which is common in East China Sea and charges 20 yuan ($3.04) per kilo generally.

"The flower crab is bigger than the Asian paddle crab. The shell should be off-white with brown spots," He said.

"The wild Asian paddle crab dies without water and it is detrimental for people to eat dead crab," the expert added.

However, Zeng Min, the manager of public relations department in Hangzhou's KFC, responded that as its advertisement says, the Golden Crab is made of wild flower crab, a large crab widely distributed in East Asia.

KFC has published a notice on its official website to search for the web user who posts the picture of Golden Crab filled with fish bone.
