A total of 15 flights were delayed and two were canceled on Monday at the fog-covered Macao International Airport, stranding hundreds of travelers.

An official of the airport told Xinhua by telephone at night that only a few flights had taken off as weather occasionally allows. As of 9:30 p.m., hundreds of travelers from the 15 delayed flights have still been stranded at the airport.

The official did not provide the specific number of the stranded, but statistics from Macao's Public Security Police (PSP) indicated that about 1,500 travelers would take these flights to leave Macao.

The heavy fog has covered the city since last Sunday, reducing the visibility to 100 meters at sea and in some districts of Macao on Sunday night and Monday morning, according to Macao's Maritime Administration.
