China's far west Xinjiang region has ordered a month-long bus safety check-up in its regional capital Urumqi following a deadly bus-train collision.
The city hopes to find and eradicate safety hazards among 3,900 buses and coaches, Seypidin Azizi, director of the city's transportation bureau, said Tuesday.
Any unsafe vehicles will be banned from operating before being repaired, Azizi said.
Meanwhile, local police will investigate the authenticity of drivers' licenses and determine which vehicles drivers are allowed to operate in accordance with the licenses.
Brake failure was cited as the main reason a bus collided with a train in Urumqi on Thursday, killing three people and injuring 85, including 11 who were critically injured.
