A farmer in central China's Hunan Province killed five people and injured four others on Thursday afternoon, local authorities said.
Fang Sihua, a farmer in Yueyang County, allegedly set fire to the house of his girlfriend, surnamed Li, in the county's Yanglin Township and used an axe to kill five people, including Li's parents and aunt.
A local government official in Yanglin Township said that Fang decided to take revenge on Li after he discovered that Li was considering remarrying her ex-husband.
Two local villagers who had been trying to help Li's family put out the fire were among the five people killed. The four injured, including three of Li's relatives, have been sent to hospital.
Policemen of Yueyang County rushed to the site after the murder and apprehended Fang.
