More than 500 firefighters are battling a fire that broke out Saturday afternoon on a mountain in southwest China's Yunnan Province, said local fire control authorities.

No casualties had been reported so far after the blaze engulfed a rugged mountain area in the Xishan District of Kunming, the provincial capital, at around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, said a spokesman from the city's fire control office.

By 6:30 p.m., the fire was still raging and control efforts were hampered by high winds, the spokesman said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
