Liang Yong, 32, from Chongqing municipality, weighs 207.5 kilograms and is 1.55 meters tall. His battle with obesity started early and he was already tipping the scales at 140 kg by the age of 14. He almost died from obesity-related problems in March 2010 when he suffered from respiratory failure and abdominal fluid retention.
The hospital in Guangzhou agreed to treat him for free but had to order a new bed and toilet, and adjust the CT scanner and blood pressure monitor to fit his size.
In addition, ultrasonic waves could not penetrate his thick layer of abdominal fat to produce clear images of his insides, according to doctors.
Liang said he had used many weight loss techniques, including acupuncture, massage and medicine, but none had worked.
To his relief, his 6-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter are both healthy. Liang got married in 2004 after losing 100 kg but soon put the weight back on and is now unable to bend over or take a bath.
