Three people were injured in an explosion that ripped through a bioengineering workshop in east China's Zhejiang Province Sunday.

The blast happened at around 3:20 p.m. in a workshop owned by Jiaxing Hengjie Bioengineering Co., Ltd. in the Nanhu district of the city of Jiaxing, according to a spokesman with the city's firefighting department.

The three injured, among whom one was severely wounded, have been rushed to the hospital, said the spokesman.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
