The 5.2-magnitude earthquake that hit Tengchong County in southwest China's Yunnan Province on Monday has left six people injured and caused significant economic losses, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said Tuesday.

The two most severely injured victims have been transferred to a hospital in a nearby town. Both are in stable condition, said Duan Zhaojin, deputy head of Tengchong County.

As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, the quake had affected 22,000 local residents and led to the emergency relocation of 2,168 people, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs,

The quake also damaged 12,000 houses and destroyed 94 others, the ministry said.

The quake resulted in 60 million yuan (9.2 million U.S. dollars) in direct economic losses as of Tuesday morning, the ministry's figures show.

The provincial seismological bureau said the tremor was felt in 18 townships administered by Tengchong.

The epicenter of the tremor was recorded in Mangbang Township, located about 40 km away from Tengchong's county seat.

The local government has allocated 7 million yuan to set up a disaster relief fund, as well as sent hundreds of tents, quilts and articles of clothing to the quake zone, according to the ministry.
