Chinese mainland police handed over 14 Taiwan residents suspected in a telephone scam to the island on Wednesday after finishing an investigation, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
Chinese mainland police, together with the Philippine police, cracked a multinational telecom-based swindling ring at the end of 2010. A total of 24 suspects were deported from the Philippines to Chinese mainland on February, including 14 from Taiwan.
The con artists call victims, mostly in Chinese mainland, and falsely claim to be police officers, procurators or bank employees and then persuade them to transfer money into their accounts.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, the mainland police are ready to work with Taiwan police to crack down on such cross-Straits telephone scam.
