A county Communist Party chief in east China's Jiangxi Province has been removed from his post for spreading rumors to disrupt official elections, the provincial discipline inspection committee said Wednesday.

Hu Jianyong, former head of the Yudu County Communist Party Committee, was allegedly angry because he failed to be nominated for a promotion and lashed out at other nominees beginning April, the committee said in a statement.

Hu commanded several people to spread slanderous stories through emails, text messages and anonymous letters, according to the statement.

The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China has vowed to crack down on election malpractices, such as vote manipulation or bribery, at all levels.

A district public security bureau chief in the southwestern province of Sichuan was sacked on Saturday for sending inappropriate text messages regarding a promotion to a superior.
