Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Thursday pledged timely and accurate information to the public after Saturday's fatal train collision.

Only by publicly disclosing the truth can the accident aftermath be handled successfully, Wen said while speaking to press at the site of the deadly train crash near Wenzhou of eastern Zhejiang Province.

Wen also promised "reasonable" compensation for the families of the deceased.

The loss of family is not something that can be bought back with money, he said.

"We should let the deceased rest in peace and bring comfort to those who have lost families in the tragedy," he added.

At least 39 people died and 192 others were injured in Saturday's high-speed train crash near the city of Wenzhou.

The Ministry of Railways on Wednesday promised to pay the families of the deceased 500,000 yuan (77,640 U.S. dollars) each in compensation.
